Statement on No Vote for S. 4160, Supreme Court Police Parity Act of 2022

Statement

Date: June 15, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), voted against S. 4160, Supreme Court Police Parity Act of 2022. Below is her statement explaining her vote:

"Since news of the Supreme Court leak informing us that the court plans to ban abortion care for millions of people Mitch McConnell has sought to distract and derail any legitimate Congressional action to protect abortion and those who seek it. The Supreme Court already has a police force charged with protecting our Justices. What Congress ought to be prioritizing in this moment is legislating to defend those who are being attacked and harassed at abortion clinics across the country, or to codify Roe so that this far-right Supreme Court does not roll back our constitutionally protected right to essential health care services. Instead of moving McConnell's SCOTUS security distraction, we should be focusing on the people who will be most harmed by the policy violence that will emanate from the court's impending harmful decision. That's why I voted NO on S. 4160."
